A dowel is the same width along its whole length. His feet never change position — and that's the problem.

Cages come with smooth, uniform plastic or wooden dowels. A bird standing on one grips at exactly the same angle, in exactly the same spot, for hours a day. Over months that's how pressure sores develop on the underside of the foot, and how the muscles in the leg stop being used properly.

WildPerch varies in thickness the way a real branch does.

Because the diameter changes along it, he shifts his grip constantly without thinking about it — different points of contact, different angles, feet working the way they were meant to. The rough bark surface also wears his nails down naturally as he moves.

Why it works

🪵 Natural branch, uneven by design — the irregularity is the feature, not a flaw. A perfectly round perch is the thing to avoid.

📏 Three lengths: 15cm, 20cm and 30cm — pick by cage width, and consider two at different heights so he has somewhere to move between.

What actually changes
